Lawrence City Commissioners are dealing with issues surrounding the "T." The Lawrence Transit System is convenient and inexpensive for residents who travel to and from work and school. But, with the rising gas prices, the city's transit system said it would need an additional $1 million to operate next year.
Tuesday night, City Commissioners said they believed the best way to save the system was to get voters to approve a new sales tax. It is up to the voters to decide if this system is a priority for the city.
"Sometimes, when I take my daughter places, I'll take her out to eat or downtown and stuff, she likes to go on the bus, so we take the bus and it saves me gas money, too," Tim, Lawrence Transit rider said.
City Commissioners will decide in the next few months whether to put the sales tax issue on the ballot.
