The price of rice has increased across the globe causing food markets and restaurants to limit the supply to consumers or increase prices. Local food markets have had mixed reactions.
Daniel Kolsky, Wa Sushi Restaurant in Lawrence, said he was not planning to react to the just yet.
“At this point we’re not really passing on any price increase for the rice to the customer,” Kolsky said.
Some Asian food markets don’t have a choice. Ananh Manixer, the Oriental Market in Lawrence, said she was forced to raise prices when the costs increased. She said the increase had caused her business to slow down.
“We should be selling more,” Manixer said. “But since the price went up, people are scared.”
