The University of Kansas men's and women's golf teams competed this weekend in the Big 12 Championships, with the men's team earning sixth place.
Brad Hopfinger, KU freshman, shot a 68 in the final round, the best round of the day for all golfers. That low score propelled him to a seventh place finish individually, the best showing by a Jayhawk in the last five years of the tournament. Walt Koelbel, KU junior, also played well, finishing tied for 22nd.
Kit Grove, KU head coach, was more than pleased with the effort.
"Coming into this week I thought that a eighth or ninth place finish for us would be pretty good," said Grove, "but the guys played very well all week and I am very proud of them."
The University of Kansas women's golf team did not fare as well, finishing 10th out of the 12 teams. Emily Powers, KU sophomore, posted the best score for Kansas, +31 over three rounds, good for a tie for 29th.
