The Lawrence High School softball team defeated Leavenworth High 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader yesterday before falling to Shawnee Mission West 3-2 in 12 innings. Freshman pitcher Lauren Massey was on the mound for all 19 innings in the twinbill, registering 186 pitches on the night.
“My arm’s a little sore, but it’s feeling good,” Massey said. “With all of the adrenaline, you just keep going. It doesn’t matter if it’s 50 innings. You just try to keep going one more inning, no matter what.”
Lawrence High will be in action again on Friday in a doubleheader against Olathe North High School.
