The University of Kansas concrete canoe team competed against ten other teams in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday.
The team was organized and run by engineering students who built a canoe from concrete this semester. The competition incorporated many different elements of each team’s design, including materials used to make each canoe, overall appearance, buoyancy, and a race. The Jayhawks’ canoe was the most buoyant of all the teams. Overall, the Kansas team finished fifth overall out of 11 teams competing in the event.
The team hopes to improve on that finish in next year’s competition and plans on starting on their design over the summer instead of waiting until January.
