KU on Wheels bus system will be open to all students beginning next fall. Students voted to pass a referendum that will add $20 to student fees.

Anyone with a KU student ID will be allowed to ride the bus. Iowa State and Texas A&M have implemented similar universal bus systems in recent years.

Parking and transit intern Jessica Mortinger said more students should use the bus system, because they would pay the fee regardless.

"Parking is going to look less desirable and transit will look more desirable," Mortinger said.

Mortinger said she expected the change to increase the number of students who used the bus by about 20 percent. The Department of Parking and Transit hopes this change will result in less traffic and less parking congestion on campus.
