Jacob Smith, a 22-year-old construction worker, injured his hip while working at the KU Student Recreation Fitness Center Friday morning. Smith was flown by helicopter at about 11 a.m. from an intramural field near Robinson Gymnasium to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

The helicopter landed in an intramural field near Robinson Gymnasium and Lawrence Fire and Rescue and several KU police cars surrounded the scene. The entire process took about 15 minutes.

Police spoke with foremen who were at the scene, but no construction workers were available for comment.
