Additional coverage of the 2008 Student Senate election and interviews with ConnectKU, Students of Liberty and United Students candidates.

Students weighed in their votes Wednesday and Thursday in the 2008 Student Senate election. Here are the results:

Adam McGonigle and Michael Gillaspie of United Students won the presidential and vice-presidential vote, defeating ConnectKU by 200 votes. United Students received 2005 votes. Students of Liberty came in third place with 305 votes, or 7 percent.

A total of about 4,115 students voted in this year's election, about 14.5 percent of the student body.

United Students also received 30 senate seats. ConnectKU received 26 seats. Brian Hardouin, an independent, also received a seat in the Student Senate. Students of Liberty received zero seats.

A referendum for a free transportation system on campus also passed in the election by about 1,200 votes.

A SafeRide referendum that would allow SafeRide services to begin at 7 p.m. did not pass.
