The University of Kansas men's basketball team (33-3) defeated the Villanova University (22-12), 72-57, in the Sweet 16.
Kansas advanced to the Elite 8 for the second consecutive year thanks to a potent first-half offense and a consistent defense that held the Wildcats to 36 percent field goal shooting. The Jayhawks only allowed three 3-pointers all night from Villanova.
Brandon Rush, KU junior, led the Jayhawks with 16 points. Russell Robinson, KU senior, scored on three of his five 3-point attempts.
The Jayhawks will have tomorrow to prepare for their next opponent, Davidson College, who upset #3 seed Wisconsin University earlier Saturday, 73-56.
Kansas and Davidson tip-off at Ford Field at 5:05 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, March 30, in the Elite 8 round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
