A little more than 12 hours after defeating Villanova, the Kansas Jayhawks were back on the court Saturday preparing for Sunday’s game against Davidson. Most of the practice session focused on defending Davidson guard Stephen Curry who is averaging almost 35 points per game in the first three games of the NCAA tournament.
The Jayhawks did not only focus on defending Curry, but also on how they will force Davidson in to committing turnovers. In Davidson’s Friday game against Wisconsin, point guard Jason Richards dished out 13 assists without a turnover. The team as a whole only turned the ball over seven times during the game.
Kansas’s deep bench and prior post-season experience should give the Jayhawks an advantage over the Wildcats, but head coach Bill Self stressed during his press conference that his team knows that Davidson is not playing like a 10-seed. Darnell Jackson said that losing to UCLA last year in the Elite 8 has helped the team become better prepared for Sunday’s game.
