The KU Natural History Museum's annual spring break science exhibit opens Monday for a week-long run. This year's exhibit, "Science of Sound," is open from 10 am-3 pm and is free to the public.
The exhibit features 20 interactive stations exploring the various aspects of sound. Teresa MacDonald, director of public education, said some of the stations enable visitors to recreate the sound of a crested dinosaur or to try on a pair of model bat ears.
"You can try on these enormous bat ears and see how effective this large surface area is at funneling sound into their ears," she said.
It takes about two hours to complete all the stations in the exhibit, and staff members will be on hand to answer any questions visitors might have.
"It's a really great chance for families to learn together as well as different members of the community to come together to explore science," MacDonald said.
The museum expects around 4,000 visitors to attend the event.
