Police enforce drinking law

The Kansas Department of Transportation recently awarded the Lawrence Police Department with a grant to help enforce underage drinking laws. The grant calls for a team of officers to roam Lawrence looking for underage drinkers.

The grant aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents involving underage drunk drivers. The Lawrence Police Department will periodically increase enforcement in an attempt to find more underage drinkers.

For minors caught drinking before the grant ends in May, a hefty fine and possible jail time loom as possible punishment.
