The 100-megabyte storage limit on KU email servers could be a thing of the past if one University of Kansas organization has its way.
Connect, a student coalition running for Student Senate positions this semester, announced an initiative that would integrate Google's Gmail with the University's Outlook Web Access email system. The email boost would give students about 6.5 gigabytes worth of storage.
Austin Kelly, one of the initiative's developers, says that the Google application would be a good alternative for students.
"We are at the technological age. Google is the best tech company in the world, and there's no reason why KU should think we could do it better than Google," he said. "We need to work with Google to ensure that we have the best IT and best email we could possibly have."
Kelly said that with Google, the University could save money by not purchasing the Outlook service. Google provides its email service free with no advertising to all universities and students.
