Nathan Markley and seven other journalism students are anxiously waiting to find out if their video, "Burrito Friends Forever," will be selected as the winner of the Chipotle's 30 Seconds of Fame 2007 Contest.
The contest challenged college students to create a 30-second video advertisement for the restaurant. The winners will be awarded $30,000. Half of the money will go to the University and the other half will be split between the students, Markley, Wellington senior, said.
The commercial, which features Markley as "Andy Chipotlegs" was created for Mugur Geana's strategic campaigns class. The video is one of 12 finalists posted on YouTube and voted on by viewers.
Markley said his group worked on the idea for months.
"One of the girls was like what if it's a real, life-size burrito with legs sticking out and one girl even sketched out a drawing. It was really funny looking so we were like let's give it a try and see what it looks like," he said. "We put the costume on and it was hilarious, so it stuck and Andy Chipotlegs was born."
The final day to vote is Wednesday and the winner will be announced Thursday morning. Markley said the group already has plans to celebrate if they win.
"I think we are probably all going to have a Chipotle party afterward," he said. "So that's the first thing. Six bucks goes to a burrito."
The group has not decided what they would do with the rest of the prize money.
