Lawrence Police Sargeant Troy Squire testified today in the trial of Jason Allen Rose.
Squire said Rose was brought in after changing his story about the night of the boardwalk apartment fire.
The video of Squire's interrrogation of Rose, which includes Rose's alleged confession, was admitted as evidence and played for the jury.
"At the end of the interview that day, Jason said that he had started the fire and that it had started through a small piece of paper and that he pointed out a balcony stairwell area on the second floor of building 516 as of where he started it at, that the fire got out of control, he attempted to put it out, failed to get it out, walked back down to his apartment, where he was going to watch some TV. Then he decided after watching a little bit of TV that maybe he should call 911," Squire said.
Squire also told the jury that he had discovered Rose had a history with fire from a social worker, but Rose seemed to shut down when asked about it.
Rose is charged with three counts of first degree murder, one count of aggravated arson and seven counts of aggravated battery from the Boardwalk Apartments fire on October 7, 2005.
