Classes on the KU Lawence campus were cancelled Monday, but the University was not the only part of Lawrence hit hard by Sunday's storm. Businesses and residential areas throughout the city suffered as well.

Many residents began clean up immediately following the storm. Strong winds left an entire fence to be reassembled in Don Gloeckner's backyard. He knew he would have some work ahead of him after what he witnessed first-hand Sunday morning.

"I looked out the window and saw the fence fall over, so then we all went into the bathroom. It was kind of crazy," Gloeckner said.

Gloeckner's father-in-law, Gleen Sohl, was not at all surprised by Sunday's weather.

"We live in Kansas, we're always going to get storms this time of year. It's a little early this year," Sohl said.

Electrical crews worked for hours on Sunday trying to repair traffic lights. One broken stoplight at the intersection of Iowa St. and Clinton Parkway caused traffic to back-up.

An apartment building behind the intersection on Clinton Parkway lost an entire side of brick wall.

Some KU students, including football players who had the day off from practice, toured Lawrence and the KU campus to see the destruction.

The strong winds and flying debris damaged many vehicles. KU offensive lineman Rameses Arceo, Whittier, Calif., junior, witnessed the damage.

"We saw a car get smashed in half. It was pretty nuts," Arceo said.

Some local companies, residents and clean-up crews were still working Monday to clean up the mess left behind by Sunday's storm.
